GenVault’s GenPlates have been extremely instrumental in streamlining operations and logistics involved in collecting and processing biosamples for the CDC (the Center for Disease Control). In 2003, the CDC utilized GenPlates to assist in collecting blood samples for the NHANES (the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey). Tubes of blood were collected from willing participants and then immediately processed in mobile labs as follows. The blood was spotted on GenPlates immediately after collection. The plates were shipped to GenVault via FedEx for storage. DNA was recovered from the GenPlate elements (6mm discs of FTA paper that reside in each of 384 wells of a GenPlate) six months later, for further evaluation.
