GenVault’s GenPlate products are the ideal solution for storing and transporting blood samples at ambient temperature.
Blood is among the most frequent sample types collected from patients and donors. High quality DNA, RNA and biomarkers in large amounts are easily obtained making it a favorite specimen of many researchers and clinicians, unfortunately blood is also a significant biohazard potentially exposing technicians to viral and bacterial pathogens. Maintaining the viability of nucleic acids in the sample long term requires storage at ultra-low temperatures to prevent degradation. Further, the storage of blood samples in collection tubes requires a significant amount of physical space.
GenVault has a unique solution to these shortcomings with the GenPlate, which utilizes >FTA technology. By applying the blood directly to the FTA embedded in the wells of the GenPlate, DNA from whole blood can be stored stably at ambient temperature for decades. Experiment-sized aliquots defer the substantial cost of DNA purification to the point at which the sample will actually be used and because each aliquot is in a secure and unique well, single use aliquots can be removed without damaging the remainder of the sample. GenVault’s GenSolve recovery chemistry makes the recovery of high quality DNA from these aliquots simple and easy. The compact footprint of the GenPlate minimizes the space required to store these samples. Finally, because FTA paper inactivates bacteria and virus upon activation, blood samples stored in GenPlates can be easily transported through standard carriers and provide a level of safety for technicians.
