Learn more about GenVault

GenVault is dedicated to stabilizing biosamples and to the integration of biosample transport, storage and retrieval, in a way that meshes seamlessly with day-to-day lab operations: thus simplifying sample sharing for customers in genomic medicine, discovery and identification. Today, we are empowering over 150 pharmaceutical companies, medical centers, academic institutions and law enforcement agencies, to more fully leverage the rapidly growing genomics industry. GenVault’s proprietary dry-state storage platform enables the extraction, preservation, recovery and distribution of DNA at room temperature. Currently work is proceeding on equivalent storage technologies for protein and RNA.

The need for such sample management solutions is growing at an exponential rate, as more and more samples are collected worldwide for disease diagnosis, research, identification and criminal investigations. A RAND study has conservatively estimated that there were more than 307 million tissue specimens stored in the United States alone accumulating at a rate of more than 20 million specimens per year.

Current methods of storing biosamples are generally limited to depositing a labeled tube holding biosample into a freezer or liquid nitrogen tank. Most often, such freezers and nitrogen tanks are part of a scattered network of several freezers or tanks spanning several locations within a company or organization. Additional freezers are added as space permits and repositories grow. While biosamples can be stored in this manner, it is not an operationally efficient or reliable system, nor does it scale well to the levels required.

An alternative to traditional freezer networks and DNA purification systems is GenVault’s dry-state platform which enables the extraction, preservation and recovery of DNA, at room temperature, in a scalable, reliable, and cost, space, and energy efficient manner. This novel biosample management solution is configured for each customer’s workflow and the planned growth of their biosample archive.

From the proprietary GenPlate, for dry-state multi-well storage of biosamples in a high density format, to the automated Dynamic Archive system, GenVault is continuously developing and refining best practices for integrated biosample management.
